Today was the first of four MedEx Mock Interview Days! I thoroughly enjoyed getting to practice my interview skills alongside my peers for the first half of the day. We rotated through six stations which all had different interview questions, including "Tell me about yourself," MMI scenarios, and standard interview questions. I found this experience very helpful, as each room had a different number of interviewers and interviewees, which allowed me to feel more comfortable in any interview situation. My ability to think on my feet, as well as my introspection regarding my path to healthcare increased, throughout this process.
Later in the day, Mr. Al came and shared about 7 different strategies to start the personal statement. My favorite part of his discussion was about the three "Yeses" that someone must get from a school in order to achieve admission - yes to competencies, compatibility, and value added. I also thoroughly enjoyed his discussion of how to know whether one is compatible with a place or not - look at the 10 C's, including culture, climate, compatibility, curriculum, etc.
Language services came afterwards, and they shared about the importance of communication within healthcare. I loved hearing from language services, as it brought me back to my Spanish for Healthcare Professionals class, when our class shadowed interpreters at the hospital. I also got to learn more about how to become a bilingual provider through the hospital system, my future goal.
Lastly, Antonia Gacha and I had the opportunity to speak at the MedEx Academy Board Meeting and share about our experiences within the program. I loved being able to share how much this program has meant to me throughout my Academic Journey!
