This morning Blake spoke about motivational interviewing and how to make patients feel empowered to take responsibility for their own health. I greatly enjoyed this presentation and hope to empower my patients through techniques like this one. Afterwards, Mr. Al spoke about the secrets to success at the next level. A lot of this centered around having good study habits, planning out your time in advance, and sticking to a schedule. I am thankful that this is how I have tried to succeed at every level but know I will need to keep getting better in this process.
Later in the day, Rayyan Alam, a MedEx alum, spoke about his company, Neuralink. Neuralink is seeking to create an implant to put in the brain to help cure diseases which have an anatomical brain root. Technology will eventually break through into medicine, even more than it has now, so I think it was very important to hear from Rayyan/ see what some of the future may look like. The M2s then discussed financial literacy/ how to finance a medical school education.
To conclude the day, VCOM discussed their admissions process, Tier II/ Tier IV had a mentorship session, and Mrs. Kellogg spoke to Tier IV about leadership development/ being a better team player. In her activity, we split into groups, and we were instructed to build the highest tower with spaghetti noodles and marshmallows. I learned more about ensuring to include every member of the team, even when I am not the leader/ ensuring that all ideas are heard, even when in a pressure situation.
