Today started with a wonderful discussion about the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville and their admissions process from Dr. Linton. I greatly enjoyed hearing about what the Greenville Medical School is looking for in their applicants, and I appreciated all of her advice on how to approach the personal statement and Greenville's interviews. After Dr. Linton's talk, our tier interns gave a presentation on how to interview in preparation for our first mock interview day on Thursday (Day 9). I loved having the opportunity to be "put on the hot seat" and answer a question regarding my clinical experiences. I am very much looking forward to Thursday!

Next, we had a Diversity and Inclusion workshop regarding social identities. With the activity, we were able to think about groups that we belong to such as our religion, race, and gender, as well as how these groups shape our values. My favorite part of this activity was reflecting on times when I have felt/ not felt a part of a group and the reasons why this was the case. I hope that this helps to foster a better community at MedEx.

After lunch, a neurologist, Dr. Urrea-Mendoza spoke to us about his job and about mission trips. My favorite parts included learning about transient foreign accent syndrome, his discussion of deep brain stimulation and how this is utilized in surgery, and his discussion of Parkinson's disease. To conclude the day, we had a follow up discussion about our lab numbers from last week. It was refreshing to hear about ways to eat and live a healthier lifestyle.
