Today was the final day of interview preparation and as such, it consisted of a full day of interviews, split into MMIs, a group interview, 2 different two-on-one interviews, and a difficult question/ hot seat interview room. (It should be noted that the picture above was not taken during interview day, but this came from a game of ninja which was played afterwards.)
I started my day with an interview session describing my wonderful experiences throughout MedEx for an advertising campaign about the program. Afterwards, I moved into the multiple mini-interview rooms, and I had 7 different scenarios to which I had to respond. Some of these were simpler tasks, like providing directions on how to get from Building 13 to 18 on a map, while others were trickier, like having a conversation with a 14-year-old girl about contraceptives. In each scenario, I did my best to ask the patient (or friend or other person) questions to find out as much information as possible. From there, I continued by building more rapport and taking a plan of action in each scenario that included clear, descriptive, and effective communication. I hope to use the skills I've gained from these practices with my future patients.
After lunch, my interview group had hotseat questions, which could range from, "Is healthcare a right or privilege" to "What is the worst part about being a physician?" I enjoyed the challenge of answering these questions on the spot and feel more equipped to respond to future difficult questions. In my 2 interviews, I loved getting the chance to talk about my reasons for wanting to go into medical school and practice being in a real interview setting, like most medical schools use.
To conclude the day, Mr. Casey Wiley spoke about Financial Literacy, Scholarships, and Loans/ repayment plans for medical school. I greatly enjoyed his presentation, as he provided really good information on paying for medical school and loan repayment programs, like PSLF.
