Today I shadowed within Prisma Greenville Memorial Hospital's Radiology Department. I had the opportunity to see almost the whole department, as I rotated through different stations like MRI, CT, Interventional Radiology, and Ultrasound, as well as being with a radiologist who was reading images. By being in each of the individual departments, I learned so much about the job that technicians within each specialty have to play. For example, when I was in the MRI department, I witnessed the technician have to repeat images multiple times when people would not hold still, so that a clear shot could be obtained. I also saw how the technicians were overworked and how providers do not always pay them much respect/ blow off the difficulty of their jobs. I believe that my experiences will make me more compassionate and understanding when I work interprofessional in the future.

Other cool things which I saw were a biopsy of a thyroid gland, and I got to observe a radiologist make decisions about the diagnoses of different patient images he saw. It was very fascinating to hear him talk through his decision-making process and to hear him say that he makes up his mind in less than 5 seconds, normally.
