Today began with another lecture from the M2 students regarding anatomy. We mostly focused on the abdomen's anatomy, including the peritoneal and the retroperitoneal organs. I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to review my anatomy knowledge, as the M2 students would quiz us on what we knew. I also loved learning new things, as we went into more depth with the abdomen's anatomy than my anatomy/ physiology classes did. Later, the director of MUSC's medical school admissions process gave a virtual talk for our Tier. MUSC has a very transparent admissions process that keeps students informed of when they will know whether they are in or waitlisted for a later decision date. MUSC, as all medical schools, emphasize the importance of GPA, MCAT, the interview, and the application (works/ activities, leadership, etc.) This discussion gave me more confidence in my own application, with which I will be applying this cycle.
After lunch, Tier IV went into the anatomy lab & had a histology lecture. I loved getting to be in the anatomy lab to look at and feel what we had just learned about. The donor's liver was much harder than I expected, and the stomach was much smaller than I had pictured in my mind. It was very fascinating to have this experience.
To conclude the day, Tier IV went through QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training for suicide prevention. I loved getting to talk through the importance of mental health and practice having conversations with others who might be struggling. The QPR training has aided me in the past, and I know will continue to be important to me in the future.
