To start today, Tier IV reviewed the AAMC's 15 core competencies for prospective medical students. In doing this, we asked each other interview-style questions to see how we had each demonstrated the core competencies. I tried to use a different activity for each example for added difficulty. I thought that this experience made me reflect and critically think on my experiences and will help me on interview day.
Later, we listened to a Ted Talk on Fitting in & belonging/ on valuing vulnerability. To me, the best part of this Ted Talk and the discussion was that most of this discussion flowed very naturally for me. My beliefs as a Christian align perfectly with the idea of being vulnerable about my imperfections with others, as I believe that we are all deeply flawed/ are in need of a Savior. I have found community/ connection with others due to taking this position regularly.
The M2 students then guided us through a Histology activity discussing epithelial and muscular tissues. I loved having the opportunity to review my Anatomy & Physiology knowledge. Next, Tier IV visited the cadaver anatomy lab and looked at 3 different donors' bodies dissected. I thoroughly enjoyed this activity, as I got to see how the body parts, which were discussed in yesterday's lecture, actually looked in the human body.
After lunch, the Tier's activities mostly centered around application work time and an opportunity to meet our Tier II mentees. I hope to be able to pass down advice to the Tier II students and provide hope to them as they continue their healthcare journeys.
