Today was the final day of the fifth week of MedEx and our final completely virtual day of Tier III. To begin today, Mr. Casey Wiley from the USCSOMG came and spoke to Tier III about how to pay for graduate school, specifically medical school. A lot of his advice centered around budgeting, taking out smart loans, and limiting unnecessary expenses to a minimum. I enjoyed his talk and was encouraged that a lot of what I am already doing will hopefully pay dividends for me in the future.
Afterwards, Mr. Al spoke to us about his Top 10... the Top 10 reasons why people are not accepted into medical school and thus the 10 most important things to have on a medical school application (many of these things can be translated to any job/ graduate school). These things included GPA, Test scores, Interview, Belief in Yourself, Work-Related Experiences, and Letters of Reference among other things. I always enjoy Mr. Al's presentation of the Top 10 and having the chance to see where I stack up for the Top 10. I feel like I am doing a pretty good job of managing my Top 10 and hope that this will translate into future acceptance into medical school.
Lastly, some people from Clemson spoke to us virtually about a program that they are working on to try to prevent people from getting diabetes. This program was for adults over the age of 18 who have a diagnosis of pre-diabetes. In the program, enrollees are engaged with a group of other classmates who are encouraged to exercise more, eat healthier, and overall live better lives... the group aspect is meant to foster a greater sense of community/ success.
