Today was the first day of MedEx Academy Tier III... very exciting! It was a very neat experience to be back in the Medical School for MedEx after three years, since Tier II was a virtual experience for me. Mr. Squire started off our day by sharing about what is going on with the MedEx program and how it is growing/ what we can gain from the program. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the ice breakers that we did today, including a get to know you Jeopardy!, a networking game where we tossed a ball of yarn around the room with someone who had a similar interest as us, and an activity where we met someone new and introduced them to the rest of the room. Through these activities I got to appreciate the diversity of Tier III of MedEx and of my peers. Some of my peers are from different states, attend schools in different states, and are different stages in their lives. Networking in this manner was very beneficial and helped to improve my oral communication skills.
Later in the day we received our Kaplan study materials for graduate school prep. This was exciting, since these books are extremely expensive, and for MedExers, these books were completely free. I look forward to the Kaplan review classes and to having dedicated study time for the MCAT. I got to know some of my fellow classmates on our tour of the medical school and during our lunch break, as well.
We wrote down some our goals for Tier III. Some of my goals include effectively studying for the MCAT, becoming friends with many of my classmates, and continuing to narrow down my areas of interest within medicine. I can't wait for the next few weeks of MedEx.
I hope to have pictures of myself to include in the days to come to share on this blog.
